Spartan Basketball

Joe Proudman / Contributing Photographer San Jose State center Chris Oakes goes up for two against Hawaii Thursday night in the Event Center. Owens finished the game with 18 points in the Spartans’ 80-63 win over the Rainbow Warriors.

Man I felt rusty tonight.

It had been a while since I seriously shot anything and even longer since I shot a men’s basketball game. Tonight the SJSU Spartans went up against Hawaii and pretty much dominated them the entire game. This was probably my favorite shot of the night. It’s the Spartans’ center Chris Oakes going up for two in-between two Rainbow Warriors.

I don’t have the greatest equipment so I used one of the few lens the JMC Department at SJSU has, which happens to be over 100 years old. Maybe even older. It’s a Nikon 80-200 2.8 that doesn’t work too well below the hoop. It’s just too much lens to follow the action down there, so after I get a couple shots I tend to move around the arena a lot. I got this shot sitting in the first row of the bleachers in between some fans.

This story ran online for the Spartan DailyThursday night.

Cool Video

A nice video I found from Janet Pomeroy on Twitter. A very simple, yet very cool poem.

The power of technology

Never before has such devastation been so available to us. Never before have we been able to know what is happening in real time. Never before has such tragedy been so public. The earthquake that devastated Haiti on Tuesday has been plastered on the internet through Twitter, Facebook, youtube and whatever else you can think of. A lot has been news →

It’s a new year!

So we're about two weeks into the new year and I can garuntee that I have not given up my new year's resolution. Probably because I didn't make one. But the beginning of 2010 did serve as a mark for changes for me. I re-designed my website. I am determined to do more freelancing. It also is the start of the end →

Sound samples from portable recorders

IF you're in the market for an audio recorder, check out Wingfield Audio's sound samples of some of the leading recorders out there. I recently purchased a Zoom H2 as a Christmas present to myself and this site helped me make a final decision on what recorder I wanted. I haven't really had a chance to use it yet, but when →

View of the Sierra

I made the trip back home to the Valley for Christmas to visit with family and friends. Unfortunately one of my good friends, Jonathan Haley, was laid up in the hospital after having some pretty serious surgery. I made the drive up to Visalia, which is about 20 minutes from my hometown of Lemoore to visit him. On the way →
